Our June gig took place on the hottest evening of the year and thanks to all of you that attended. Unfortunately our booked act, Tony Crooks. had to cancel due to a family bereavement. However, we were able to book at short notice, Martin Jaye, who is always one of our favourites.
It was still warm in July and once again we had a change of act as Rob Childs went down with Covid and was replaced by Kenny Junior. It was Kenny’s first time at the club and he gave us a wonderful evening performing a mixture of both old and new songs. No doubt he’ll be back.
In August we welcomed back Trey Jackson, but only just. Trey’s journey down from Newcastle took 7 hours due to road traffic issues and he arrived just in time. Trey gave us a very good evening although an interpreter was useful at times.
Gary Leonard appeared at Phoenix Riders for the first time in September. Gary had been previously booked during the Covid lockdown when all gigs were cancelled. What an enjoyable evening he provided, singing a great mixture of music, old favourites, as well as dances hot off the press. Hopefully he will also be back in 2024.
The format of the evenings remains the same with three 45 minute sessions by the artist and Anne doing two 15 minute DJ slots to start the evening and during the first break, then the raffle in the second break.
We also made three donations of £100 each to Essex Air Ambulance, Little Havens Hospice and Headway Essex.
